Made by one person, for one evening at a time.
“I bought an M5 Pro MacBook and f.lux stopped working. Sundown told me warming wasn't available on this Mac, and Night Shift wasn't warm enough, so I built Atapa. I use it every night.”
Kevin Hofmann · maker of Atapa · Soulrise LLC
The test behind that sentence: a 14-inch MacBook Pro, M5 Pro running macOS 27.2, looked at with eyes on 2026-10-29, because screenshots cannot show the tint. f.lux 42.2 said it was on and the panel did not change. Sundown 1.6.4 showed its own message, "Warming isn't available on this Mac yet." Night Shift at More Warm was a mild orange. The details and the sources are on the M5 page.
The name
Ātapa is Sanskrit for the sun's warmth. Read as a-tapa, it means untroubled. That is the idea: the warmth of the evening sun, without the glare.
How it is made
No network code
Not "we don't collect". There is no code in Atapa that could connect. No analytics, no update ping, no account. The licence key is checked on your Mac.
Paid once
$12, all the Macs you own, updates for version 1 included. A 14-day trial without a card and a 14-day refund without questions.
Honest claims
Every number on this site has a source and a date. No sleep promises, no "blue light blocked" percentages, no testimonials until real people give them.
Credit where it is due
Night Shift is built in and still works on M5. f.lux is free and runs on Windows. Sundown has a bigger guide library. The comparison says so.
The company
Atapa is made by Kevin Hofmann at Soulrise LLC, a Florida limited liability company. The same name signs the app (Developer ID) and appears on your receipt. Address and contact on the legal page. Write to hello@atapa.app.
