# Atapa for Mac

> Atapa is a Mac menu bar app that warms and dims the screen from daylight (6500K) to deep red (500K) through the evening. It works on M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pros, where apps that tint through a gamma table do nothing. It costs $12 once for all of your own Macs, with a 14-day trial and a 14-day refund. It has no account and no network code. It requires macOS 14 or later on Apple silicon. Kevin Hofmann makes it at SOULRISE LLC.

## Guides
- [f.lux not working on M5 Pro or M5 Max](https://atapa.app/m5/): M5 Pro and M5 Max Macs accept f.lux's gamma table and never apply it (Apple bug FB22273730). What we saw on 2026-10-29, and what works instead.
- [Make a Mac screen darker than minimum](https://atapa.app/guides/make-mac-screen-darker-than-minimum/): The brightness keys stop at the panel's lowest step. Reduce white point in macOS, Atapa's dim slider and brightness keys, a Shortcut, and the limits.
- [Night Shift not warm enough? What to do](https://atapa.app/guides/night-shift-not-warm-enough/): Push Night Shift to More Warm first; it stops around 2700 to 3000K. For a warmer or deep-red screen, including on M5 Pro, here is what works.
- [Evening light and your body clock](https://atapa.app/science/): Melanopic light in plain words: on a P3 screen about 72% is blue, 28% green. Why dimming matters as much as warmth, and what Atapa's ring estimates.
- [Atapa Shortcuts, Focus filter and CLI](https://atapa.app/shortcuts/): Every Atapa Shortcuts action with its parameters, the Focus filter, the atapa:// URL scheme, the command-line flags and the keyboard shortcuts.
- [Readable red: deep red you can still read](https://atapa.app/readable-red/): A plain red filter turns links black. Atapa folds blue and green into red: at 500K there is no blue in the tint and the words stay.

## Comparisons
- [Atapa vs CircadianShield](https://atapa.app/vs/circadianshield/): CircadianShield: $47 once for Mac and Windows, warmest 1800K, M5 not tested per its site. Atapa: $12 once, Mac only, 500K, works on M5 Pro.
- [Screen-warmth apps for Mac compared](https://atapa.app/compare/): One fair table of Mac warmth apps: which change an M5 Pro display, how far toward red, readable links, network use and price. Checked 2026-10-29.
- [f.lux on an M5 Pro: what still works](https://atapa.app/alternatives/flux/): Not a ranked list. On M5 Pro and M5 Max, f.lux reports success and changes nothing. Night Shift still works, mildly. Atapa goes to a readable 500K.
- [Atapa vs f.lux](https://atapa.app/vs/flux/): f.lux is free and runs on Windows and M1 to M4 Macs. On our M5 Pro on 2026-10-29, f.lux 42.2 changed nothing. Atapa goes to a readable 500K. Dated facts.
- [Atapa vs Night Shift](https://atapa.app/vs/night-shift/): Night Shift is built in and still works on M5 Macs, but stops at a mild orange. Atapa goes to a readable 500K and dims below the minimum.
- [Atapa vs Solace](https://atapa.app/vs/solace/): Solace bundles dark mode, wallpapers and warmth for $4.99 once. Atapa does warmth and dimming only, to a readable 500K, and works on M5 Pro.
- [Atapa vs Sundown](https://atapa.app/vs/sundown/): Sundown has a big guide library and more customization. On our M5 Pro on 2026-10-29, Sundown 1.6.4 said warming is not available yet.
- [Atapa vs Iris](https://atapa.app/vs/iris/): Iris has deep presets and a Windows build; no Mac update since 2022 per Sundown. Atapa is $12 once, offline, readable 500K, tested on M5 Pro 2026-10-29.
